John Love Marker Jr.

March 2, 1948 — January 23, 2022

John Love Marker, Jr., 73, entrepreneur, veteran advocate and historian, died Sunday, January 23, 2022 at his home in Waxhaw, North Carolina. His loving wife of 30 years, Elaine, was by his side.
John was born in Greenville FL, son of Patricia Prince and John Love Marker, Sr. He graduated St. George [SC] High School and studied at Tallahassee [FL] Community College and the Baptist College of Charleston SC.
John served in Vietnam during 1968-1970 as a forward observer with the 4th Infantry Division and the 1st Cavalry. He was decorated for heroic action under enemy fire in 1970.
Following military service, John was a Senior System Analyst and Regional Manager with American Express Health System Group travelling throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean Islands. In 1990 he founded ACCC, a wireless data applications company based in Charlotte NC, and developed ground-breaking technology for early mobile banking. His firm was awarded the Charlotte Blue Diamond Award for innovation in technology. John and Elaine married in 1991. John called her “the love of his life” and took great pride when she earned her MBA.
After retiring, John devoted his time and talents to veteran causes and genealogy.
He was tireless working on behalf of veterans. He was Commander of the Fort Mill VFW Post 9136 which was named All State and All-American Posts under his watch. Later, he was the first Commander of Capt. John F. Monahan Indian Land VFW Post 12136 and led it to national recognition as well. He was passionate about youth scholarships and Veterans in the Classroom projects. He promoted Purple Heart recognition for veterans and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for those who served in Vietnam. Anonymously, he often donated to help a fellow vet over a rough patch.
John loved all things history. He was a gifted genealogist and historian who spent hours documenting little known history or tracing someone’s lineage back to the American Revolution. He was President of the Major Robert Crawford Chapter, SC-Sons of the American Revolution. He also served as SC-SAR State Genealogist. He championed projects involving the Catawba Indian Nation and African-American Patriots.
John loved his vintage Thunderbird, single barrel bourbon, Velvet the Cat, and, his latest obsession, QR Codes. He was a source of great stories and had a quick wit. His cousins describe him as “remarkable;” his nieces remember him as “cool Uncle Johnny.” He touched many and we are better for his being here.
Surviving John are his wife, Elaine Marze Marker; sister, Dr. Patricia Marker Hinton of Climax GA; nieces, Paige Hinton, Tallahassee FL and Eve Hinton, Climax GA; great-nephews, Sean Johnson and Gage Spriggs; and a host of cousins in Florida, Georgia and Washington.
