John Buford Page (82) departed this world on 28 April 2019 in Waxhaw, NC, leaving his beloved wife, Peggy Alene [Wells], 5 living children, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. John’s children: Patti Lynn Burroughs (61) of San Antonio, TX, Richard “Rick” Bennett Page (59) of Lancaster, SC, Joseph David Page (deceased), Paula Jean Squier (54) & husband, Michael Squier, of Pasadena, TX, John Luther Page (39) & wife, Amanda Nicole [Bigham] of Waxhaw, NC, and James Robert “J R” Page (37) & wife Kristen Ellana [Wineland] of Burnsville, NC. Grandchildren: Jonathan Ross Burroughs (36) & wife, Courtney Lea [Brown], Brian James Burroughs (31) & wife, Allyson Christina [Carpenter], Ashley Marie Page (30), Cullen Bennett Page (29), Mark Allan Daigle (36) & wife, Ashly Michelle [Griffith], Amy Janell Itzel (35) & husband, Brandon Michael Itzel, Adam Lee Daigle (31) & wife, Nadine [Ona], Sarah Elaine Roach (23), McKenna Grace Page (10), and Finley Love Page (7). Great-grandchildren: Carter Ross Burroughs (5), Rian Paige Burroughs (3), Kennedy Rae Burroughs (2), Fox James Burroughs (2), Scarlet Noelle Page (7), Madilyn Grace Daigle (8), Juliet Elise Itzel (5), and Allison Itzel (2). John is also survived by a sister Leah Jayne [Page] Hunt of Richmond, VA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 12:00pm at Waxhaw Baptist Church, 8213 Old Waxhaw Monroe Rd, Waxhaw, NC 28173. The family will receive friends and family from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
John was born 14 Feb 1937 in Lawton, OK; the son of John Bennett Page & Dora Pauline [Brock]. He attended Poly High School in Ft Worth, TX and enlisted in the US Army shortly after his 17th birthday in Feb 1954; His military assignments include 2 years in Japan, 5 years in Germany, 2 years in Hawaii, and a year in Viet Nam. He spent 12 military years at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX where he met an army nurse, Major Peggy Wells, in 1976. They were married 14 Feb 1978 in Colonial Heights, VA where both were assigned at nearby Ft Lee. John’s final military assignment, Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, was in Aurora, CO where Sergeant-Major John Page retired in Aug 1982. He then accompanied his wife, Colonel Peggy Page, to Hawaii where she was assigned at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.
John graduated with a BA Degree in Humanities at Chaminade University in Honolulu (1983) and earned a MS Degree in Health Services Admin from Central Michigan University (1985). He is a former Veterans Service Officer that served five years assisting veterans in North Carolina (1991-1996). John was a conservative Christian that believed truth, integrity and total faith in God were vital for eternal salvation. He & Peggy are members at Waxhaw Baptist Church.
