John Henry Stryker

August 5, 1938 — April 10, 2017

John Henry Stryker, 78, of Marshville, passed away peacefully Monday, April 10, 2017 at CMC - Union. John was born August 5, 1938 in Trenton, NJ, a son of the late Norman Abram and Margaret Josephine Burroughs Stryker. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held 2:00PM Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Gordon Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Janet Tyson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00PM at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held 11:00AM Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Titusville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Titusville, New Jersey with the Rev. Kenneth Good officiating. John retired from the New Jersey State Police after 35 years of service as a groundskeeper. For the last ten years he was a resident of Karizma Home Care Center in Indian Trail and Brookdale Clarebridge Center in Monroe, where he enjoyed watching racing, wrestling and old western movies and also loved music. Many days the halls would be filled with the music of old hymns he played and sang along with for others to hear and enjoy. He was forever kibitzing with the caretakers, who loved it, but were always there for him when he needed care. John counted everyone he met a friend. He loved many and was loved by many, and he leaves an empty space in his family's hearts. As he passed away, the hospital's lullaby played noting a new baby had entered the world. The Lord gives back as He takes away His own. John is survived by his brother Norman Stryker and his wife Betty of Marshville, his twin sister Joan Swift of Winter Haven, FL, three nieces, two nephews, several grand and great grand nieces and nephews all whom he loved dearly. John's family would like to thank all the staff members of Brookdale Clarebridge, Karizma, and Critical Care Unit of CMC-Union for always compassionately caring for John. Rest peacefully and without pain John. You were loved by your adoring family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer's Association 3800 Shamrock Drive Charlotte, NC 28215-3220. Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory is caring for the Stryker family. Online condolences may be made at www.gordonfuneralservice.com
