John Dolan Thomas, Sr., 77, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He was born in Union County on April 27, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Dorothy Thomas of Monroe and brother, Lee Thomas of Monroe. He was also preceded in death by his late wife, Jean Bivens Thomas of Monroe.

Mr. Thomas was a Vietnam Veteran and served from 1968 to 1970. He is retired from Atrium Hospital, where he worked in Environmental Services.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.

He is survived by a daughter, Melinda Mackay and her husband Jonathan of Wingate, NC; a son, John Dolan Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Tonya of Monroe, NC; his grandchildren, Katie CruzSerrano and husband Arbenz of Citrus Springs, FL, Josh Mackay and wife Mirian of Maxton, NC, Anthony Thomas and Dylan Thomas of Monroe. He is also survived by a great-grandson, Robert CruzSerrano of Citrus Springs, FL; his brother, Jeff Thomas (Susan) and sister, Wendi Kelly (John).
