John Edward Wright was the son of William and Kathleen Wright. He attended public school in Forsyth county and Atkins High School. He graduated from North Carolina School of the Arts. He was a talented musician and played several instruments. His favorites include the piano and oboe. His educational accomplishments included Johnson C. Smith, New York University and UNC School of the Arts claiming accolades in musical studies and musical performance on Oboe. He proudly served his county in the US Air Force and Navy. Even these endeavors embodied his love of music including performances in the Presidential West Coast Band (US Air Force) and 16 years in the US Navy Woodwind group. After his military retirement her played on the military base in Virginia. As a civilian John played in several jazz bands including a back up band for Aretha Franklin. John played the piano for several churches in Winston-Salem and Union County. John also taught music in elementary school with Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). John was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Jackson and two brothers Alfred and Odell. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Eldridge and Doris (Lester) Davis both of Winston-Salem; two grandsons Lacy and Eddie Jackson of Pickerington, Ohio in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. John will be greatly missed.
