John R. Zubaty

Beloved husband and father Mr. John R. Zubaty, 77, died in the comfort of his home on September 20, 2011 in Monroe, NC. Born June 19th, 1934 in Claridge PA, to the late John and Mary Mahkovic Zubaty. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Lee Dotterway Zubaty and brother Edward Zubaty. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, September 23, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, officiated by Father Thomas J. Kessler. Surviving are his son Robert Zubaty and wife Barbara of San Diego, CA; his daughter Laurie and husband Eugene Brantley Jr. of Monroe, NC; brother Ron Zubaty and wife Cindy of Houston, PA; his sister Janice and husband Joe Stets of Brenizer, PA; nephews Neil and A.J. Zubaty; niece Leslie Anderson Zubaty. John attended North Carolina State University on a football scholarship where he played offensive half back from 1954 to 1957. After graduation in 1957, he began his career at Teledyne Vasco and later transferred to Teledyne Allvac where he would retire after 39 years of dedicated service. John was a dedicated coach for the Latrobe, PA Midget Football League. He would often take his commitment for his players beyond the field, visiting them at home and in the hospital when needed. He will be remembered by his former players as an inspiration and a role model. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 12:30 until 1:30 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe NC 28112. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be dedicated to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28110, or to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 725 Deese Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
