Johnie Louis Barker

Johnie “John” Louis Barker, 78, of Marshville, NC passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022. He was born in Italy on a U.S. military base on February 11, 1944 son of the late Abramo Barker and Agnes Birmingham Carta. He is also preceded in death by two sisters Saroba Cash, and Joyce Conrow.

He was a former chairman of Union County GOP and an advocate for the Union County Homeless Shelter. John was also a machine shop teacher at the Career Center for many years.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Central United Methodist Church Chapel, 801 South Hayne Street, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial to follow in Marshville City Cemetery.

John is survived by his loving wife Cheri Lee Barker, two sons; Richard Barker, fiancée Amanda Kurtz, Johnie L. Barker II, wife Christine, daughter Lissell Currie, husband James, seven grandchildren; Kayla Stewart, Eli Currie, Loralei Barker, Averie Barker, Colton Barker, Zane Kurtz and Olivia Kurtz, and sister Rebecca Bertotti.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will also receive friends Friday, prior to the service from 1:00PM until 1:45PM in the Central Hall.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Union County Homeless Shelter, 160 Meadow Street, Monroe, NC 28110 or Central United Methodist Church, 801 Hayne Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
