Johnny Lynn Knight, 75, of Monroe, NC passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He was born in Union County, NC on July 4, 1951, son to the late Lenson Lee Knight and Mary Blake Nicholson Knight. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Gaddy Knight, and two sisters, Melanie Hyatt and Ginger Knight.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

Johnny is survived by his twin daughters, Lynda Christine “Christy” Knight and Carrie Ann Knight, two grandchildren, Colby Belk, Colin Belk, brother, Mark Knight, sister, Nancy Barrs and multiple nieces and nephews.

Johnny was one of the most interesting and intelligent people you’d ever meet. He loved spending time with his family and had many interests including Ham Radio, with call signs KF4NJ and WB4U, motorcycles, firearms, extra-terrestrials, science fiction, history and astronomy. He was also a professional at making “Dad” jokes.

Johnny was an US Army veteran, specializing in communications and achieving the rank of Sergeant.

He began his career working for WIXE Radio where he helped create Swap Shop, and then moved on to the UCPS School Bus Garage where he was the voice of Gus the Talking School Bus. Johnny received his Associates Degree in Education and taught electronics at the Union County Career Center before moving on to being a driver for Union County Transportation. Johnny also worked at Iron Horse Motorcycles.

Johnny was a volunteer firefighter for Sandy Ridge VFD, was a published author with articles in the Ham Radio magazine QST, and was a founding member of UCARS (Union County Amateur Radio Society).
