Joyce Horne Purser

Joyce Lynn Horne Purser, 88 of Monroe, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. She was born in Union County, NC to the late James Marion Horne, and Bertha Jane Trull Horne. She is predeceased by her husband of 70 years Troy Lee Purser Jr., her daughter Peggy Purser Moyer, and son Scott Lee Purser.

Joyce was quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around her. Throughout her career, she worked at various places, including Lance Cracker, Yale and Cooper Tools, but she dedicated many years to being at home with her children. Joyce had a passion for travel, often embarking on adventures with friends. She found joy in planting flowers and preserving vegetables from the garden to share with her family. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing cards with other couples and square dancing with her husband Troy. Joyce also had a talent for sewing; she crafted numerous square dance dresses and costumes for her children, showcasing her creativity and love.

An amazing cook, Joyce took pride in preparing delicious meals and cherished the time spent with her family around the dinner table. As a grandmother, she delighted in caring for her grandchildren during the summers, creating lasting memories and nurturing their bonds.Together with her husband, Troy, Joyce devoted 18 years to delivering Meals on Wheels every Friday, embodying her commitment to community service and compassion.

Joyce is survived by caregiver and loving daughter Troyanne Funderburk and husband Melvin, son-in-law Tom Moyer (Robin Cole), daughter-in-law Kathy Purser, six grandchildren Matthew Moyer (Sherry), Wesley Moyer (Lauren), Kristen Thomas (Trey), Olivia, Landon and Farrah Funderburk; four great grandchildren Ryan, Gracie, Hope and Isaac Moyer.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 19th at New Hope Baptist Church 5928 New Salem Rd Marshville, NC 28103 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 pm-2:45 pm in the church fellowship hall.
