Juanita Helms Godfrey, age 97, finished her earthly race and entered through Heaven’s gates on Monday, May 4, 2026. She was born in Union County and raised in the Fairview community, being the second of seven children to the late Joe Lee Helms and Myrtle Crowell Helms. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Godfrey, five siblings, Doris Hinson, Carolyn Fowler, Helen Barnhardt, James Donald Helms, and Paul Helms.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 8, 2026, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

She was a faithful member of Hebron Methodist Church and Memorial United Methodist Church. Being a homemaker, she was an accomplished seamstress and a cooking extraordinaire. Her family was always at the center of her life.

She is survived by three children, Karen Frazier (John) of Charlotte, Debra Hinson (Tim) of Camden, SC, and David Godfrey (Shelly) of Monroe. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Audrey Morgan, Meredith Benthall, Hoss Hinson, Julie Vetter, DJ Godfrey, and Jennifer Godfrey as well as nine great-grandchildren.
