Julia Anne Nicholson Mitchell, 75, of Monroe, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021. She was born October 26, 1945 in Union County, a daughter of the late Newlin Bartimus Nicholson and Julia Kathleen Faison Nicholson. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Mitchell Marlar and a sister, Mary Katherine Copple.
Funeral services for Julia will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from the graveside in Lakeland Memorial Park.
Julia graduated from Monroe High School and was a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee. She was a loyal fan of Tennessee athletics, especially football, where she spent many Saturdays cheering in Neyland Stadium. Her love of athletics included many weekends spent watching her grandchildren play a variety of sports and occasionally a piano. She served as the Director of the Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center, retiring in 2017. Over her more than 25 years she cultivated many friendships and was an advocate for the senior community in Union County. Her sharp sense of humor, candor, strong will, and compassion will be greatly missed. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Julia is survived by a son, Christopher Mitchell and his wife Kristen of Charlotte, a son in-law, Jeff Marlar of Knoxville, TN and six grandchildren.
