Kenneth Eugene Collins “Ken” passed away at Carolinas Medical Center in Monroe on November 17, 2014. He was born April 21, 1937 in Rock Hill, South Carolina to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest O. Collins (Violet Smith). He grew up in Rock Hill and graduated from Rock Hill High School. He furthered his education at the University of South Carolina, graduating with a degree in accounting. In 1976, he became the founding partner of Collins and Boike (now Collins, Boike, and Moore) with offices in Monroe and Charlotte. For the next thirty two years, he enjoyed working relationships with clients, many of whom became his close friends. Also, he took great pride in personally training his staff in accounting practices. As a result he established a strong, long lasting bond with his fellow workers, valuing their role in providing quality service. He retired from the firm in 2008, but stayed active in managing rental properties until his death. Ken gave so much of himself to the Monroe community. At the time of his death, he was a charter member of the South Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees, having served as secretary. He also served as chairman of the City of Monroe Appearance Commission and was a member of the Monroe Economic Development Authority. Ken had a rich and rewarding life, but nothing surpassed the love he had for his family; he was a devoted son, brother, husband, and father. He will be missed, but will always be remembered for his generosity and unbelievable determination. The family would like to thank Dr. John Vick for his constant, compassionate, and quality care he gave Ken over the years. Ken is survived by his loving wife of thirty years Janie, their daughter, Molly and her fiancé Wade Baccich of Charlotte, two sons Scott Collins and wife Angela of Barrington, New Hampshire and Alex Collins and wife Ginna of Atlanta, Georgia and their mother, Virginia Craig of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Also surviving is his beloved sister Edith Hause of Lake Murray, South Carolina, his two grandsons, Adam and Christopher and special companion Tracy Bui of Indian Trail. A private burial will be held at Southside Cemetery in Waxhaw on Friday, November 21, 2014 prior to the memorial service at 2:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. After the service, a visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall.
