Kenneth Derwood Hawley, 85, passed away in Monroe, NC on December 29, 2014. He was born September 14, 1929 in Wilson, NC. He lived and worked in the Washington D.C. Metro Area for most of his adult life. He served his Country as a member of the United States Air Force and also the Air Force Reserve. He officially retired in 1989, and then relocated to Monroe, NC. Derwood was a member of the Church of God, which is headquartered in Cleveland, TN. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elva Virginia Hawley of Monroe, NC, and his sons Donald Alan Hawley of Monroe, NC, and Kenneth Curtis Hawley of Wheaton, IL, brothers Adron Talmadge Hawley Virginia Beach, VA, Norman Lee Hawley of Middletown, MD, and Sherman Hugh Hawley of Tega Clay, SC. Derwood is preceded in death by his mother(s), Victoria Johnson Hawley and Ada Alma Hawley, his father, Jesse Elijah Hawley, and a brother Jesse Vick Hawley. Mr. Hawley was first and foremost a Christian, God fearing man. He was a loving and caring husband; father, brother, uncle, and friend. If you knew and loved Derwood, don’t miss the opportunity to see him again in Heaven. A memorial service will be announced at a later date for those who wish to attend.
