Kenneth Eugene Walden, 78, of Monroe, NC passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025. He was born in Union County, NC on December 28, 1946, son to the late William “PeeWee” Sanford Walden and Clara “Louise” Pressley Walden. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Nolan Walden and sister, Nancy Austin.
Ken Walden married his beautiful bride, Martha, in 1966 and quickly whisked her away to Germany where he proudly served his country as a military policeman in the U.S. Army. After his time in the army, Ken and Martha returned to settle in Union County where they raised their family. Ken became known as “Little PeeWee” at CSX Transportation where, like his father before him, he did much of his life’s work. Ken retired from CSX in 2007 after 38 years of service to the American railroads. In retirement, Ken spent time doing things he most loved, traveling with Martha, fishing on his boat in North Myrtle Beach, playing cards with friends and family, watching old westerns on television, and celebrating the joys of having four wonderful grandchildren.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, whom until the time of his passing he called “the love of his life,” Martha Gaddy Walden. He is also survived by two sons of whom he was incredibly proud, Chris Walden (Erin), Michael Walden (Mary Beth), four devoted grandchildren, Garrett Walden, Riley Walden, Mary Kate Walden, Julia Walden, a brother, Ronnie Walden (Fran), and a sister, Freeda Kenley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday September 27, 2025, at High Hill Primitive Baptist Church, 2225 Concord Ave, Monroe, NC 28110, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00PM until 1:45PM in the church sanctuary.
