Kimberly Kersey Thomas, 61, of Wingate, entered her eternal rest on December 12, 2023, at the Hospice House of Union County surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on May 16, 1962, to William “Bill” Emory Kersey and Ruth Bourne Kersey in Conway, SC.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow in Hamilton Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00PM until 1:45PM at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
Kim worked in the restaurant/service industry for most of her adult life. She truly enjoyed her relationships with all of her customers and coworkers, who always became more like friends.
Kim spent the last decade alongside her husband and best friend, Mike Thomas, whom she adored. He has lovingly cared for her and held her hand every step of the way. Through her long, hard-fought battle he provided comfort, companionship, and love.
She will be remembered most for her desire to entertain family and friends with her delicious home cooking, sweet treats, humor, sharp wit and love. Kim loved her family and friends, putting together jigsaw puzzles, solving daily crossword puzzles, and any opportunity to play a game.
She was preceded in death by her father, William “Bill” Emory Kersey, and her children, Jeremy Daniel Kirby and Kersey Grace Cannon.
Kim is survived by: her loving husband, Michael “Mike” Thomas of Wingate; her mother, Ruth Bourne Kersey of Conway; her children, MaryAnn Cuthbertson (Scott) of Fairview, Don Travis Shelley of Conway, and Emily Rose Johnstone (Christian) of Southern Pines; her grandchildren: Nathan Nicholas Gianelli, Layla Grace Gianelli, Jackson Isaac Cuthbertson, Wade Scott Cuthbertson, Kirby Louise Johnstone and Cole Renalds Johnstone; her stepson, Daniel Wayne Thomas of Ocean Springs, MS; and her siblings: Deborah Kersey Shelley, Terri Kersey Sellers (Bucky), and Mark Anthony Kersey (Sue), all of Conway, SC., her mother-in-law, Helen Little Thomas of Marshville, her sister-in-law, Cynthia Thomas Greene (Kenneth Stegall) of Marshville, in addition to the many people who loved her, she was loved by her dogs, Zoey, and Bella.
