Larry Stevens Furtick, 60, died June 5, 2013, at his home in Charlotte after a two year battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 10, 7:00 PM, at Elevation Blakeney, 8835 Blakeney Professional Dr., Charlotte, NC 28277. Mr. Furtick was born July 1, 1952, in Swansea, South Carolina, to Wilfred Haskell and Jacquelyn Furtick (Anderson). He lived much of his life in Moncks Corner, SC, owning and operating his own barbershop for more than 25 years. He was married to Faith Liles on August 12, 1978; they were married 34 years. While living in Moncks Corner, he taught Sunday school at Santee Circle Community Church and founded Changed Lives Men's Ministry, focusing on helping the homeless and those recovering from substance abuse. In 2010, he and his wife relocated to Charlotte, NC. He was a member of Elevation Church. He is survived by his wife, Faith; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Furtick-Jones and Chris Jones of Bamburg, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Steven and Holly Furtick of Charlotte; son, US Air Force SSgt Matthew Furtick of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Elijah, Graham, Abbey, Hannah and Austin; mother, Jacquelyn of Macedonia, SC; brother, Russell Furtick of Moncks Corner; brother, Don Furtick of Orangeburg, SC. Mr. Furtick was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred Haskell; and his brother, James. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the ALS Associtation - Jim Catfish Hunter Chapter, 4 N. Blount St., 2nd Floor, Raleigh, NC 27601.
