Laura Deane Billingsley

Laura Deane Haigler Billingsley, of Monroe, N.C. passed away Monday, November 11, 2019. Mrs. Billingsley was born October 17, 1930 in Union County, N.C. daughter to the late James Brice Haigler and Glennie Mae Hyatt Haigler, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Haigler Hatley and her husband, Everett. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, November 15, 2019 at her home church, Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church, 109 E Lawyers Rd, Monroe, NC 28110. Reverends Chris Baucom and Darren Adams will officiate. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Gus Billingsley of Union County. Daughters are Katherine Foster (Don) of Jacksonville, FL and Gail Howard (George) of Monroe, N.C. grandsons Seth Foster (fiancé Bethany Jordan) of Jacksonville FL and Ben Howard (Stephanie) of Concord, N.C. Mrs. Billingsley enjoyed spending time with her great granddaughter, Briar Howard. Mrs. Billingsley graduated from Benton Heights High School and Appalachian State Teachers College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in the early childhood education. She taught school at Alton Elementary, Fairview Elementary, and Benton Heights Elementary. In 1969, Mrs. Billingsley began working with her husband at Monroe Glass Shop until they both retired in 1987. Her hobbies included traveling, gardening, church activities, reading and going to yard sales. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, N.C. 28112.
