Laura "Jack" Smith

Laura Jack Gathings Smith, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012. She was born in Chesterfield County, SC on August 8, 1926 daughter of the late James M. and Minnie Smith Gathings. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 2:00 until 3:15 pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC followed by the funeral service at 3:30 in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will be meeting at other times at 809 Fowler Rd. Monroe, NC 28110. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Calvin Smith, sons, William and Doug Smith and daughter, Judy Tart. She is survived by daughters, Janet Tucker and husband Eric and Joan Fraley and husband Jimmy, all of Monroe, brother, Robert Gathings of Mississippi; sister, Sue Rappe of Matthews, 11 grandchildren, James E. Smith (Lillith), Marc Smith, Michael Smith (Olivia), Tisha Surface (Kevin), Janelle Mullis, Willie Tart (Angela), Angela Eudy (Brian), Chris Hammonds, (Ashley), Jason Fraley (Angela), Rev. Joshua Fraley (Maleah), Jennifer Edenfield (Joseph) and 22 great grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thanks to the nursing staff at Jesse Helms Nursing Center.
