Dateline: Waxhaw NC Lee Craig Lewis, Jr., 72, died Friday, December 5, 2008. Born in Forsyth County, NC, on December 7, 1935 son to the late Lee Craig Lewis, Sr. and Edna Bumgardner Lewis. Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his step-mother Hazel McDade Lewis, and a brother Carlos Edwin Lewis. Lee was employed by the City of Monroe Fire Department for thirty years, since his retirement twelve years ago, he had been an active member of the Union County Retired Law Enforcement Association. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army for almost eight years. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 2:00PM in First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Stuart Wilson, Reverend Paul Allen, and Leslie Everett. A private interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Belmont, NC will be held at a later date. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Lelia Carole McCain Lewis of Waxhaw, two sons, Lee Phillip Lewis and wife Kristin of Sevierville, TN, Andrew Craig Lewis and wife Angela of Waxhaw, five grandchildren Phillip Lewis and wife Miranda, Spencer Lewis, Alexis Lewis, Drayton Lewis and Olivia Lewis.The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 until 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church of Monroe.
