Leonard W. Newell, 93, passed away at his residence Monday, July 20, 2015. He was born in Union County on October 16, 1921, son of the late Zenith Walter and Mary Murphy Newell. He retired after 30 years of service with General Motors. Mr. Newell devoted his entire life to serving the Lord. He and Mrs. Newell were baptized June 7, 1956 and faithfully served Christ their entire lives. He taught Bible class, led singing, served at the Lord’s table, was always eager to share the gospel with others, and prayed heartfelt prayers for those in need. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC. Burial will follow in the Newell Family Cemetery in Mineral Springs, NC. Mr. Newell is survived by his wife, Yuline Crenshaw Newell; daughters, Mary Ann Sparrow and husband Bill of Mineral Springs, Rita Pettus and husband Wayne of Weddington, Freida Edwards and husband Todd of Monroe and Nancy Helms and husband Mike of Mineral Springs; and two grandchildren, Charity DiLallo and Matthew Helms.
