Leslie Auston Everett Jr. (Ducky), 84, reached this life’s finish line and went to be with his Lord on Saturday Feb.17th, 2018 at CMC Union Hospital in Monroe, NC. after a short illness. His family surrounded him. Les Ducky was born Nov. 8 1933 of the late Leslie A. and Sarah Lamar Everett of Monroe NC. He graduated from Monroe High School and came back to settle and raise his family. He graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC where he was inducted into the athletic hall of fame with the nickname, Iron Duck, for his contributions to football, tennis, baseball and basketball. Leslie served in the United States Air force and the Air Force Reserves until 1962. He was a teacher, a coach, and a national leader for Horace Mann Insurance Company where he was inducted into the Hall of fame with a bas relief bronze bust of him displayed at the national headquarters in Springfield IL. From the time he was a child he enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including raising show dogs, rabbits, specialty chickens and exotic pigeons as well as gardening, working out and singing in a barber shop quartet. Les’ awards and achievements even in his hobbies are outstanding. Ducky was once even featured on the David Letterman show with his rabbits and also became a medal winner in the Senior Olympics many times over and in many events. After retiring he went to seminary to become a Lay Minister ordained by the Presbyterian Church USA. It was his great love to serve as a pastor for visitation and to fill in as a lay preacher in regional churches. He was a faithful lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, Monroe NC where he sang in the choir, was an elder, and was a great encouragement and example to many. Leslie is predeceased by his first wife Norma McMillan Everett and is survived by wife Diane Sell Everett, Children - Kathryn “Kaki (Robert) Fowler and Elizabeth Lib (Scott) Smith, Grandchildren - William Everett and Jenny Elease Ally Fowler, Dylan Leslie and Jaxson Scott Smith, Sisters - Sarah Everett Hasty and Anne Everett (Mickey) Herrin, Stepchildren - Evans, (Nikki), Damon, Hal Damon, and Pam (Steven) Sciascia, Step grandchildren - Nicoleous, Harper, Dory Anna, Cate Damon, Michael, Matt and Sarah Sciascia, Nieces and Nephews - Mike (Beth) Herrin, Ina (David) Ausborne, Sarah Hasty Williams, and Lee (Elizabeth) Hinson-Hasty, all of whom he loved and delighted in. A memorial service will be held on Saturday Feb. 24th at 1:00 Pm at First Presbyterian Church, Monroe NC with the Rev. Jason Haas officiating and with co-celebrant Rev. Ray Thompson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the community room of the church.Interment will take place at Lakeland Memorial Park at 3:30 PM.
