Libby Howie Morrison 1945 - 2017 Monroe - Celeste Libby Howie Morrison, age 71 passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 20, 2017. Libby was born November 25, 1945 in Charlotte, NC and was the first of four children of the late Ralph S. and Celeste R. Howie. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Jack A. Morrison; a daughter, Elizabeth Howie Morrison of Destin, FL; a son, John Morrison and wife Jill and beloved granddaughter, Logan of Jamesville, NC. She is also survived by her sister Pam Brantley and husband Don of Monroe; Ralph Howie and wife Judy of Jacksonville, FL and Ken Howie and wife Carol Ann of Myrtle Beach, SC. She was predeceased in death in 2009 by her precious grandson Luke. A career educator, Libby graduated from Monroe High School and earned degrees from Meredith College, Wingate University and UNC-Charlotte, with certifications in business, career and vocational education. She taught in several schools in both Mecklenburg and Union Counties and also served as Community Schools Coordinator for the Union County School System. Libby was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe. Libby possessed a generous, loving spirit and was a faithful friend to many. She never knew a stranger. Her joy of life was contagious. During her physical rehab for a knee replacement she gave a party in her room! Typical Libby. Everybody wanted to laugh and love and “listen y’all” with Libby. On a trip to Italy she was so thrilled to purchase gifts for Luke and Logan - and to tell stories of “those precious grandchildren” - that others kept their eyes out for possible gifts for her. We all knew Libby’s huge heart. In lieu of a service the family will hold visitation at Jack and Libby’s residence on Sunday, January 22, 2017 to celebrate her life. Please call (850) 376-3874 if you need the address. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, 302 E. Windsor St. Monroe, NC 28112.
