Obituary

Lonnie David Kirkley, 58, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 22, 1967 in San Diego, CA, son to Georgia Novasad Kirkley and the late Lonnie David Kirkley.

Lonnie graduated from Sun Valley High school in 1985, and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. After serving in the Navy, he began his lineman career with Trull’s Powerline prior to joining Union Power Cooperative in 1989. Lonnie served as a lineman for 21 years before becoming Manager of Operations where he left an everlasting impact on the cooperative as well as the many men he led and trained over the years.

Lonnie enjoyed spending his free time hunting and fishing. He was an experienced bow hunter and martial arts expert. In 2024, Lonnie began his axe throwing journey. He was determined, motivated, and won the amateur nationals in 2025. He also loved to travel the world with his wife and best friend, Annette. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith.

A memorial service to celebrate Lonnie’s life will be held at 4:00PM on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service. The family will receive friends following the service at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Annette Bridges Kirkley, mother Georgia Novasad Kirkley, three sons, Lonnie David Kirkley III, Maclaine Alexander Kirkley and wife Savannah, Joshua Mark Tyson and wife Laureen, two daughters, Kaitlyn Marie Kirkley, Erin Tyson Baker and husband Britton, brother, Michael Edward Kirkley and wife Aimee, sister, Mary Ilene Wolf and husband Gene, and five grandchildren, Anna Grace Kirkley, Michael Landon Kirkley, Teagan Olivia Tyson, Addison Hope Tyson, and Ansley Grace Tyson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Lonnie’s honor be made to Hospice of Union County or the American Cancer Society.
