Louis "L. C." Laney

Dateline: Monroe, NC Louis Chalmer “L. C.” Laney, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 3, 2013. Mr. Laney was born in Union County, NC August 25, 1928 son of the late Benjamin and Beattie Montgomery Laney Aycoth. He retired from the US Coast Guard after twenty-one years serving in Honolulu, HI, New London, CT, New Bedford, MA on the USS Esconaba and USS Yakatak, and lastly as commander in charge at Race Point Lifeboat Station in Provincetown, MA, retiring as E7 in 1967. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge #244. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112 conducted by Rev. Bill Englebreth and Rev. John Taylor. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family received friends Monday evening. L. C. is survived by his wife Elizabeth Cooper Laney; daughters, Lou Ellen Smith and husband Darrell and Karen Hildreth and husband Glenn both of Monroe; brothers, Clarence Laney of Lancaster, SC and Kenneth Laney of Monroe, NC; sisters, Margie Howard of Monroe, NC and Helen Ennis of Norfolk, VA. Grandchildren, Andrea S. Parker and husband Matthew, Kim Barnes and husband Tony, Cameron Hildreth and wife Heather and Dustin Hildreth; great grandchildren, Tyler, Jackson, Meghan and Carson Parker, Elizabeth Seibel, Cheyenne and Colby Gibson, Zana Barnes, Laney, Emme and Bayleigh Hildreth. L.C. will be remembered as a loving husband, father, pawpaw and pepaw. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 S.
