Louise Prater Underhill

Louise Prater Underhill, 92 passed away with her family by her side at Jesse Helms Nursing Center on January 25, 2021. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2021 in the Gordon Funeral Chapel 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. She was born April 22, 1928 in McMinnville, Tennessee, daughter of the late James and Laura Young Prater. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Alex Underhill, five brothers, three sisters, and son-in-law, William “Pete” Griggs. Louise is survived by one son, Roy Underhill (Janet), of Prosperity, SC and three daughters, Donna Griggs, of Marshville, NC, Mary McLain (Rick), of Marshville, NC, and Jennifer Morton (Wade), of Monroe, NC. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Laura Hagedorn (Daniel), of Orlando, FL, James Griggs, of Graham, NC, Kara Finch (Creig), of Locust, NC, Christy Derby (Justin), of Charlotte, NC, Tiffany Presson (Dougie), of Marshville, NC, Kelly Collins (Matt), of Charlotte, NC, Cameron Morton (Madeline), of Wilmington, NC, and Katie Morton (Timothy), of Morganton, NC, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a faithful Christian, devoted wife of 55 years, loving mother, and wonderful Gran. She was employed as a nanny for Dr. Joseph King and Dr. Sandra Abda King’s children for over 20 years.
