Mrs. Lucille Gaddy Dean, 97, of Monroe, died the 26th of January 2018, at the Jesse Helms Nursing Center. Mrs. Dean was predeceased by her husband, Walter Vance Dean; daughters, Susan D. Ponds, Sandra Sledge Allen, and Shirley D. Fahey; sisters, Lottie Parker, Mae Lee, and Rachel Haigler; and brothers, H.T. Gaddy, Jr., Japp G. Gaddy, and Ted Gaddy. Mrs. Dean was a native of Union County, born February 21, 1920, in the Olive Branch community. She was the daughter of the late Henry Tyler Gaddy and Eunice Simpson Gaddy. Mrs. Dean was employed by GM Nameplate for 43 years, retiring at the age of 86. She was a dedicated member of the Benton Heights Baptist Church for more than 68 years. An avid gardener and talented seamstress, Mrs. Dean shared her vegetable garden bounty with family and many friends and performed clothing alterations for countless individuals. Mrs. Dean is survived by a son, Winston J. Dean (Caroline) of Rockville, MD; six grandchildren: Paula Ponds of Monroe, Bret Dean (Jessica) of Bethesda MD, Elizabeth Goodger (Brian) of Sandy Spring MD, Nicole Sledge of Chapel Hill NC, Patrick Cullen Fahey III (Katrina) of Greenville SC, and Erin Fahey Seeger (Anthony) of Travelers Rest SC; four great grandchildren, Rebecca and Ava Dean and Zack and Zoey Goodger. She is also survived by two sisters: Nell Simpson (Leroy) of Monroe and Martha Coley (Jack) of Marshville NC as well as many nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:am, on Monday, January 29, at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the Benton Heights Baptist Church, 1411 Helms Street, Monroe NC 28110.
