Luticia Starnes Fowler, 93 years young, passed on to heaven surrounded by her children on Saturday, October 12, 2024. She died from pneumonia.
Luticia was born on August 17, 1931, to the late Hoyt Braswell Starnes and the late Bessie McCain Starnes in Waxhaw, North Carolina. One of nine children, she grew up on a farm in Union County surrounded by love.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Heath Memorial Church, 9908 Richardson King Road, Waxhaw, North Carolina, 28173, with burial to follow in Waxhaw City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
Clifford Clinton Fowler returned from World War II in 1946 with no idea of marriage or attachment. Then he went on a double date and met Luticia. He was smitten. They were married on March 15, 1947, and loved each other fiercely until Clifford’s death in January 2012.
Luticia attended Jackson High School. She began her working life at 18 years old at Springs Bleachery as a seamstress. She worked for various companies in textiles from Springs to Ferncrest Fabrics, including Kenneth Home Fashions and Shaw Upholstery.
Her talents were many. Her sewing skills extended from creating clothes and altering store-bought clothing to making items for the home. She was an excellent cook to the delight of all who were fed at her table and any dinner she contributed to. Her desserts were highly sought.
She loved the Lord and all his creation, noticing all delightful things, big and small. Through the years she attended many churches beginning with Bethlehem Methodist and ending with three current churches: Health Memorial Methodist, Oak Grove Baptist, and Waxhaw United Methodist. At each church, she served in many capacities. She also served and supported the American Legion Auxiliary.
Her love spread far and wide. Children were drawn to her wherever she went and she loved them all.
Luticia is survived by her children: Martha Piercy and husband Alford; Crystal Wright, and Clifford Hunter Fowler; her granddaughters: Courtney McCoy, her husband Jeremy, and son Xander; and Jessica Tussey and her husband Joe. She is also survived by her brother McRae Starnes and nieces, nephews, and cousins spread around the world.
The family would like to thank all the hospital staff at both Atrium-Union and Atrium-Pineville for the tender and assiduous care to Luticia during her illness. We especially appreciate everyone in ICU-Pineville for their kindness and care in these last days.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Luticia’s memory to Heath Memorial Methodist Church, 9908 Richardson King Road, Waxhaw, North Carolina, 28173, or to a charity of your choice.
