Mrs. Lydia Aycoth Blackmon, 90, of Monroe, NC died peacefully, May 9, 2016, at Carolinas Continue Care Hospital in Pineville, NC. She was born February 8, 1926, in Union County, daughter of the late Robert Ellis Aycoth and Faye Moore Aycoth. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Curtis Blackmon and three sisters, Bonita Belk, Marjorie Helms, and Dorothy Mills; and two brothers, Hilton “Hick” Aycoth and David “Monk” Aycoth. Lydia was a graduate of Prospect High School and member of Central United Methodist Church. After marrying the love of her life, Curtis, they dedicated their lives to rearing their twin daughters and started a business in July of 1961, Curtis Blackmon Wholesale Company. She continued managing the business after Curtis’s sudden death in 1973 until 2010. Lydia is survived by twin daughters, Deborah B. Taylor and husband Bud of Fayetteville, NC, Donna B. Purnell and husband Lynn of Charlotte, NC. She had four granddaughters, Whitney P. Combs (Robert), Katelyn P. Dixon (Brent), Jennie Wilson (Matt) and Sally Taylor (Mark); one great granddaughter, Emily Wilson and great grandson, Brandt Wilson. In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held in the sanctuary of Central United Methodist Church, Thursday, May 12, from 1:00 pm until 2:15 pm followed by service at 2:30. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family wishes to express special thanks for the love shown at Carolinas Continue Care Hospital and Palliative Care. Also, a heartfelt gratitude for the love and care shown by Doris Carpenter and Maria Hernandez, her caretakers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 801 S.
