Marcus Alexander “Alex” Norwood, 38, died at home on December 19, 2013. He was the oldest of 3 sons of Billy Frank and Rebecca Smith Norwood. Alex attended Monroe High School and N.C. State University. Alex is survived by his parents; brothers Dan and wife Treena, and Drew and wife Meredith all of Monroe; grandparents Patty Norwood and the late Bill Robinson Norwood, and Virginia Smith Bjorlin and the late George Marvin Smith Jr.; his niece Maddie; and three nephews Will, Porter, and Cooper. A memorial service to celebrate Alex’s life will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 at 4:00 PM in Lee Park Church, 2505 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC, 28110. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Healthquest of Union County, Inc., 415 E. Franklin St., Monroe, NC 28112 or a charity of one’s choice.
