Marcus "Mark" Smith

Dateline: Monroe, NC Marcus Edmond “Mark” Smith, 79, died Friday, December 15, 2006. He was born in Stanly County, NC on April 5, 1927 son of the late Edmond and Ila Eudy Smith. Mr. Smith was a WW II U. S. Army veteran and a retired employee of Springs Industries. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 17, 2006 at 4:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in Lakeland Memorial Park. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Warren Starnes who died on September 20, 2006. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mildred Laney Smith, daughters, Avanda Smith Starnes and Terri Ann Smith, brother, John Smith, sisters, Ruby Melton, Doris Preslar and Virginia Mullis, all of Monroe, Liz Thomas of Fort Mill, SC, and Vivian Price of Concord, 2 grandchildren, Jeffery Starnes and wife Marie and Heather Joyce Jackson and husband Richard, 2 great grandchildren, Carter Jeffery Starnes and Porter Andrew Starnes. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
