Margaret Elizabeth Pressley

November 14, 1940 — November 8, 2022

On November 8, 2022, Margaret Elizabeth Shuman Pressley passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, North Carolina. Margaret was born on November 14, 1940 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Friday, November 11, 2022 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will immediately follow at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe North Carolina, where her parents Ramona Reeder Broome and William George Broome also rest.

Margaret spent her days with her devoted husband, Marvin “Mouse” Arvil Pressley, at her side. Margaret graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1959, but the couple met at Benton Heights High School; and they could frequently be seen roller skating together at Hadley’s Skating Rink in their early years. He proposed to her under the pier at Myrtle Beach and they were married on September 5, 1959. Both were founding members of Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, where she played piano and sang in the choir.

Margaret’s greatest joy and love were her three grandchildren Madison, Jack and Scott. She relished in spending time with them on their numerous visits and sleep-overs. Margaret was an avid reader of books and the Lord’s scriptures. She loved antique Blue Willow china, and collected figurines of cardinal birds and angels that could be seen throughout the décor in their home in Monroe.

Margaret’s favorite singer was Elvis Presley, and she put together a scrapbook that even included a cup that he had actually drank from. In the 1950’s she was lucky enough to see him in concert at Charlotte Coliseum. Margaret also enjoyed Barry Manilow’s music and saw him in concert several times, too. Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed playing her piano, and even taught her grandchildren to play a few tunes. She loved sitting at her large kitchen window with her husband looking at the flowers in her garden and watching the song birds eating from the feeders.

Amazingly, Margaret never retired and continued to work right until a week before her passing at a local podiatrist’s office as the Office Manager. She loved chatting away with family and watching episodes of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on television. To her last days, Margaret was feisty, full of tales, independent and lovingly stubborn. If Margaret wanted something done, you could bet it was going to be done her way!

Margaret is survived by her husband Marvin Pressley; two sons William and Scott Pressley; her grandchildren Madison, Jack and Scott Pressley; and her daughter-in-law’s Amy Pressley and Lisa Pressley.

Margaret will be missed by her family and will be remembered in their hearts. It is certain that comical tales about Margaret’s life will continue to fill their memories of her.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Margaret’s favorite charity, The Humane Society, 4015 Waxhaw Hwy., Monroe, NC 28112.
