Marian Upchurch Dowdee

Dateline: Monroe, NC Marian Upchurch Dowdee, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Union County Hospice, Monroe, NC. She was born in Oxford, NC daughter of the late Rev. C. A. and Frances Reynolds Upchurch. Mrs. Dowdee was a retired school teacher, having spent most of her career at Fairview Elementary and Unionville Elementary schools. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM in Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church. Visitation will be held in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. Graveside burial will follow in Montlawn Cemetery, Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Dowdee was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Leonard Dowdee and a son, Wicker “Wickie” Leonard Dowdee. She is survived by a son, Leslie Alan Dowdee and daughter, Jane D. Pressley both of Monroe, granddaughters, Jennifer Contz Privette and husband, Drew, Emily Clontz, Claire Pressley, Amy Dowdee Smith and husband, Shane and Jena Marie Dowdee. Also great grandchildren, Hannah and Brenna Smith and James, Luke and Asa Privette. Other survivors include her nephew, Dr. John Upchurch and his wife Becky of Dahlonega, GA and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Gloria Toler of Raleigh.
