Marie Belk

Marie Belk, 71, of Monroe, NC passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. She is a native of Union County, a daughter of the late Jessie Bradford Howard and Carrie Mavis Thomas Howard. She was an active member for over 40 years of Mount Pleasant Baptist church where she sang in the choir, was a Sunday School teacher and led the Ladies Ministries. A part of her ministry was to write cards and letters to family and friends in need of encouragement. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, September 20, 2021 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 2524 Stack Rd, Monroe, NC 28112, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue Monroe, NC 28112. Marie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Lowell Belk, her son Jeremy Belk (Melissa) of Albemarle, NC; a daughter Cheryl Upchurch (Jeff) of Oakboro, NC; two brothers Brad Howard (Darlene) of Umatilla, FL and Keith Howard (Sandy) of Franklin, TN; three grandchildren Cody Belk, Logan Belk and Brittany Upchurch; six great grandchildren; a cat Katie; and two dogs Belly and Jelly. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Atrium Health Care - Union, ICU for the loving care they shown Marie.
