Marilyn Palmer, 81, of Matthews, NC passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. She was born in Wamego, Kansas on October 25, 1940 daughter to the late Benjamin Yantz and Albertha Eckart Yantz. She is also preceded in death by her husband Donald Ray Palmer; brother Bill Yantz and sister Dorothy Gorman.
A funeral mass will be held 2:00PM Monday, March 21, 2022 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 13700 Lawyers Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227. The family will receive visitors 1:00PM to 1:45PM prior to the mass at the church. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.
Marilyn was raised in the Catholic Church in Manhattan, Kansas and attended Lucky high school. She pursued further education at Marymount College in Salin, Kansas and studied education and Chemistry, she went on to receive her Masters in Chemistry from Duke University. She taught in both College and high school and went on to finish her career in the Fairfax County schools in Virginia. She taught for 35 years in the school systems and continued to tutor chemistry until she was 80. She Married Donald Rae Palmer June 26, 1971 in Woodbridge Virginia. They made their home in sterling Virginia until June 2002 when they moved to Charlotte NC to be with their children and grandchildren. The family attended Christ the Redeemer Church until the move to North Carolina where they became active members of St Luke Catholic Church. Her faithfulness to living a Christ Centered life was exhibited by her overwhelming involvement with many activities such as leading small faith groups, Faith formation teacher, Eucharistic minister, and heading many committees. She continued her servant leadership when she became a resident at Windsor Run where she led the Welcome committee and spread love and joy to all.
Marilyn is survived by her son Daryl Palmer (Tess), daughter Rhonda Rae Williams (Dustin); five grandchildren Caroline Rae, Meredith Rose, Emma Grace, Mason Luke, and Annah Valee; and sister Ruth Pfeifer.
