Marilyn (Price) Wilson

Marilyn Price Wilson, 95, died Saturday, July 19, 2014 in her home at the Emeritus at Eastover Assisted Living Community in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mrs. Wilson was born on June 7, 1919 in Buckhannon, West Virginia to the late Herbert Leroy and May Virginia Price. In 1938, she was a princess in the West Virginia Strawberry Festival. She also graduated that year from Buckhannon High School and entered West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. In 1939 she married Curtis Stanley Wilson, also of Buckhannon. During World War II while Mr. Wilson served with the U.S. Army in Iceland and later at Ft. Meade in Maryland, Mrs. Wilson lived in Arlington, Virginia and worked first at the Maritime Commission and then for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration. After the war ended, the Wilsons returned to West Virginia, living there primarily in Clarksburg and Charleston until 1988, when they moved to Seven Lakes, North Carolina. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Eastern Star and the Junior League of Clarksburg. Avid golfers, the Wilsons were members of Kanawha Country Club in Charleston, where Mrs. Wilson was president of the Ladies Golf Association, and Beacon Ridge Country Club in Seven Lakes. Mrs. Wilson was also prize chairman for the West Virginia Golf Association for two years. Preceded in death by her husband Curtis and daughter Kristi Kay, Mrs. Wilson is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis Stanley Wilson, Jr. and Sharon Wilson of Charleston, WV, David Michael Wilson and Terri Lynn Wilson of Monroe, NC; and a daughter, Suzann Wilson Matthews of McLean, Virginia. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kristi Nicole Wilson, Andrew Michael Wilson, Lucy Olivia Matthews, Emily Wilson Kirchner (Matthew Carl) and Steven Lynn Richardson Jr. (Mary Beth) and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. The family will visit with family and friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road Suite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814 and Hospice Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
