Marjorie Yarborough Joyner, 100, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at CMC - Union, surrounded by her family. She was born in Union County on November 8, 1916, daughter of the late Edward Heath and Effie Weir Yarborough. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John Elliott Joyner; her son, David Lamar Joyner and her granddaughter, Christi Lynn Joyner.
Ms. Joyner was the oldest member of Hermon Baptist Church, and a charter member of WMU. She was an accomplished quilt maker, a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and MawMaw to all.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM in Hermon Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Larry Underwood and Rev. Jimmy Fox. The family will visit with friends and relatives following the service in the Family Life Center.
Ms. Joyner is survived by her sons, John Barry Joyner and wife Debbie, Carson Elliott Joyner and wife Judy and Merwyn R. Joyner and wife Susan; daughters, Melba Ann Joyner and Laura Robyn Gordon and husband Doug “Pugsley”, all of Waxhaw; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte and the staff of CMC-Union for their kindness and care of Ms. Joyner.
