Marjorie Wilkins (Edwards) Plyler

September 17, 1921 — February 8, 2016

Marjorie Edwards Plyler, of The Cypress of Charlotte, formerly of Monroe and the loving wife of the late James C. “Jake” Plyler, Sr., died on February 8, 2016 in the presence of family at The Stewart Health Center. She was born September 17, 1921 in Anson County, daughter of the late William Hertly and Bertha Baucom Edwards, was a 1942 graduate of the Women’s College of UNC and a member of Central United Methodist Church. Marge was predeceased by her beloved husband Jake, brothers Bill and Harold Edwards, sister Allie George Creech, and dear family friend, Doree Walker. Marge will be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness and true authenticity. She was the consummate Southern lady who continued to write heartfelt hand-penned notes until the end. She was a woman of strong character, and while Jake’s success in business was built on hard work and integrity, Marge was the foundation on which that success was built. She loved her friends and her time with them, especially on the golf course and at the bridge table. But more than anything she loved and cherished her family. Marge is survived by her children James C. “Jim” Plyler, Jr. and wife Geri, Anne Plyler Lee and husband Kent, and William W. “Bill” Plyler and wife Missy. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren who loved their Mimi dearly: Jonathan Plyler and wife Jan, Amanda Rogers and husband Lamar, Josh Lee and wife Ashley, Ginger Hightower and husband Jon, Katie Plyler and fiancé Jesse Mendes, Caroline Plyler, Will Plyler, and also Abdel Moussafir. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Jackson and Ashton Lee, Preston Parker, Adam and Layla Moussafir, J.C. and Jack Hightower, and Jake Plyler. She is also survived by her sister Annette Clark as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Central United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 14, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm followed by the Memorial Service in the chapel at 2:00 pm. Inurnment in the columbarium will be private. The family would also like to express their gratitude to all who cared for Marge over these past few years and especially the compassionate staff of the Stewart Health Center. Memorials may be made to Turning Point of Union County, a cause very close to the Plyler family, P.O. Box 952, Monroe, N.C. 28111, to Central United Methodist Church, 801 S.
