Marlene (Catoe) Starnes

Marlene Catoe Starnes, 73, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015. She was born in Kershaw, SC on March 5, 1942 youngest child of the late Corley Lewis and Katie Lenore Barrett Catoe. Mrs. Starnes graduated from Lancaster High School in 1960. She was an employee of Walmart at the Arboretum from 1997 until 2013. Her hobbies included watching Westerns, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on TV, dancing and she was an avid reader. Mrs. Starnes was married to the late Ron Starnes for 25 years and was preceded in death by 13 siblings. She is survived by a daughter, Veronica Lynn Starnes Covington and husband Jim of Monroe, son, Eric David Starnes and wife April Moore Starnes, sister, Jean Burgess Freeman of Mint Hill, 2 granddaughters, Regan Nicole Covington and McKinley Erica Starnes whom she loved. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 1:00 until 1:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jesse Helms Nursing Center Activity Fund, 1411 Dove St., Monroe, NC 28112.
