Martha Shannon Broome

Mrs. Martha Helen Shannon Broome joined her beloved husband Buddy in heaven on January 19, 2025. A woman of great faith, Martha was born November 27, 1939 in Monroe, NC to Lucille and Sydney Shannon. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Buddy” Broome; sisters Mildred Lowery, Dorothy Fowler and Mary Crisp and brother Bruce Shannon.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 24, 2025 in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

She is survived by her brother Gordon Shannon (Bobbi); daughter Melissa; son Todd (Hollie) and dear grandchildren Luke and Cole Broome.

A lifelong member of church choirs, Martha’s love of music was a highlight of car rides, where family sing-a-longs were common. A passionate decorator, Martha never left a piece of blue and white china behind. She and Buddy spent countless hours browsing antique stores for just the right piece. When they weren’t visiting local shop owners, Martha and Buddy could be found on the Carolina backroads going for scenic drives. A tradition Melissa continued after Buddy’s passing. Martha had an incredible green thumb and her gardens supplied endless gifts of bouquets to friends and neighbors. High school sweethearts, Martha and Buddy lived a life of happiness, adventure and treasured family moments. Now together again, their memory will be carried by all who were blessed by their abundant love.
