Martha Riggins Rogers Taylor died peacefully on June 22, 2024, after an extended battle with dementia.
She was born on August 5, 1927, to the late Alma Davis Riggins and Baxter Riggins. She was also preceded in death by her two infant sons and three sisters, Lib Mangum, Lois Grant, and Frances Sell.
She married Gerald Rogers in 1947 and celebrated 40 years of marriage before his untimely death in 1988. In 1996 she married another high school sweetheart, Arthur Taylor and they were married for 23 years until his death in 2019.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 5709 Philadelphia Church Road, Marshville, NC 28103. The family will receive friends following the service.
A private family burial will be held at a later date at Faulks Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her strong work ethic began at Southern Bell In Charlotte, NC where she was employed for 10 Years. After starting her family and moving to Matthews, NC from Charlotte, she continued her employment with Alltel (formerly Mid Continent) in Matthews for 20 years until retirement.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann Rogers of Wingate, NC and Susan Rogers Woodle (Robert “Speedy”) of Mint Hill, NC, three grandchildren, Adrianne Blevins (Ben), Nathan Sherrin (Ashley) and Grant Woodle, three great-grandchildren, Evan Sherrin, Carsyn Blevins, and Cash Blevins.
Martha was basically a “homebody”, and found her personal peace and joy while cooking for family and others. Home and especially her kitchen was her “happy place”.
Missing her in the days ahead, but precious memories are inevitable.
