Dateline Monroe NC Mr. Martin L. McGee, 91 years of age, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center – Union. Mr. McGee was born July 11, 1920, in Florence County, South Carolina, to the late Mary Jane Mullis McGee and John William Jesse McGee. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Myrtle S. McGee, and brothers, James Wallace McGee, Henry McGee, Harry McGee, Perry McGee, Berry McGee, Tom McGee, and sister, Addie Mae Long. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Gordon Funeral Home of Monroe. Funeral Services will be 3:00 P.M. Monday April 2, 2012, at Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, with Rev. Chris Baucom, Rev. Darren Adams, and Rev. Ollis Revels officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Survivors include three daughters: Pamela Carriker and her husband Reggie of Monroe, Robin Barbee and her husband Mark of Locust, Debra Stegall and her husband Gary of Monroe; grandchildren, Kylen Carriker and his wife Delia, Cortni Schenker and her husband Chris, Brian Barbee and his wife Jennifer, Justin Barbee and his wife Mandy, Garrison Stegall and his fiancé Jennifer Smith; great-grandchildren, Kelyn Carriker and Ethan Barbee; and brother, Charlie McGee of Whittier, California. Mr. McGee was a member and Deacon of Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, a charter member of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, and a World War II Veteran. His career began at Hugh Gray Hosiery Mill in Concord, NC, where he worked as Foreman until the early 1960’s. He and his family relocated to Union County where he farmed until his retirement. He faithfully served his church and community through numerous committees and events. His family would like to thank the offices of Dr. Martin Kreshon and Dr. Gregory Brouse for their compassionate care of Mr. McGee.
