Marvin (Ron) Hargette, 63, a native of Union County died April 23, 2007. The story of his life started in Monroe, NC. He was born in 1943 to the parents of Marvin Rae and Jessie Mae (Helms) Hargette of Monroe. He also has a sister Loretta Brauda. Dedicated to his country, he enlisted in the Marine Corp. in 1967. His military career was cut short when he was injured in Vietnam. Upon returning to Monroe as double amputee, he soon married Diane Poe of Louisiana. Together they raised three children Deborah, Tammy and Michael. Driven to success, he co-owned a mechanic shop. A calling to the ministry as a Baptist minister led him to Fruitland Seminary where he was ordained in 1979. As diligent student of the Word and inspiring teacher he guided many to salvation and along Christian walks. Wanting to make an impact he joined the rants of the Sheriff’s Office, graduating one of the top of his class. He helped open doors to other disabled people. With desire to return to teaching, he inspired students in the public schools as a substitute teacher. In retirement, he filled his days with hobbies such as fishing, cooking, billiards, and restoring classic cars. People of all walks of life have witnessed the great life success story of the man we affectionately call Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather (2), and most importantly, Friend.
