Mary Sis Andrews Stack Dillon passed away peacefully on Monday, October 8, 2018 with her family by her side. During this difficult time, the family has found immense comfort knowing that Sis was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Tom, on their 63rd Wedding Anniversary. She is survived by her daughter Mary Marshall Dillon Winn, her son-in-law Charles Tripp B. Winn, III and two grandchildren, Charles B. Winn, IV Jordan Marshall Winn. She's also survived by her brother James E. Stack. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Patrick Dillon, Sr, her son Thomas Patrick Dillon, Jr. and her parents Amos “Pop” Stack Mary Marshall Stack. Sis was born in Monroe, NC on July 26, 1931. She graduated from Monroe High School Winthrop University. Her love for History began at an early age, and she eventually went on to chair the Monroe-Union County Historic Properties Commission. Sis was also an integral staff member of the Heritage Room at Union County Courthouse for many years. Sis received Union County’s “Woman of the Year” in 1986 to honor her numerous contributions to the community. There will be a private service at St. Paul's in the garden where her ashes will be interred in the columbarium alongside her husband Tom, and son Patrick. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale, Snug Harbor and most of all family friend, Stephen Adams, for going above beyond over the past few years as they helped care for Sis. Recently, many individuals have shared incredible stories and memories about Sis, though her granddaughter’s tribute perfectly captured the legacy she left behind: “She taught me the importance of history and knowing where you come from. She taught me how to make iced tea and the perfect chocolate pie. She taught me how to manage a home and tie flawless bows on Christmas gifts. She made sure we knew to always give what you can. Thank you, Ganny, for preparing me for this life and providing me with the best mother out there. We miss you dearly, but understand that Papa couldn’t spend another anniversary without you.” In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer's Association in Sis’ name: http://act.alz.org/goto/sisdillon.
