Mary Christine “Chris” McCurry, 87 passed away at home with her family by her side on June 19, 2021. She was born December 30, 1933, in Hertford, North Carolina, daughter of the late John and Janie Tanner Layden. She is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Central Union Church of Christ, 3115 Old Charlotte Highway, Monroe, NC 28110. The family will receive friends immediately after the memorial service. Chris is survived by four children, Cliff McLain (Melody), of Monroe, NC, Rick McLain (Mary), of New Salem, NC, Cindy Laney (Robert), of Monroe, NC, and Jerry McCurry (Diane), Marshville, NC; eight grandchildren: Brandon McLain, of Monroe, NC, David Price of Monroe, NC, Matt Chaney (Melissa), of Monroe, NC, Brad Price (Amanda), of Unionville, NC, Kara Finch (Creig), of Locust, NC, Jill Knight (Dustin), of Monroe, NC, Tiffany Presson (Dougie), of Marshville, NC, and Leslie McCurry of New York, Shannon McLain, of Monroe, NC, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, a sister Sandra Points of Alabama, and a brother Clyde Layden of Tennessee. She was a faithful Christian, loving mother and wonderful Mema and Nana. She was employed as a store manager for Roses and Family Dollar.
