Melissa Ann “Missie” Hargett, 56, born and raised in Monroe, NC, Melissa was a unique kind of person that touched all that met her. Called Missie by most, she enjoyed an amazing life, full of adventure. Brave and a risk taker, she moved to Tallahassee, Florida where she met her future wife, Laurel. She later moved to Louisiana where she enjoyed many years in her beloved Lake Charles as an aviation mechanic, dog groomer, and a rock band sound engineer and driver. She fell in love with the Louisiana & Southwest Texas culture and music and leaves behind many friends, family, and loved ones.
Though the last few years were focused on battling her health issues surrounding severe asthma, she was happy to be reunited with her family in North Carolina, living in Monroe until her passing. She lived her life with gratitude and was always making her doctors and caregivers laugh. She tried to find joy in every day.
She is survived by her wife, Laurel Barineau Hargett, mother, Gracie Hargett, father, Nathan Hargett Sr., (Doris Hargett), brother, “Billy” Nathan Hargett Jr., (Wendi Hargett), aunts, Brenda Simpson, Susie Johnson, Deborah Splawn, mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Ivan Barineau, as well as lifelong friends, Lisa Oakley, Suzette Ghent and her beloved cats and dogs.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
