Michael E. Bailey WAXHAW -- Mr. Bailey, 50, died of sudden heart failure Thursday, November 2, 2006. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on February 11, 1956, son of Bill and Barbara Smith Bailey. Michael was Vice President of Engineering for Source Technologies of Charlotte, NC. Michael earned his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and his Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, in Monroe, NC. An avid and accomplished endurance rider, Michael was a member of the American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC) and the Southeast Endurance Riders Association (SERA). He had recently won the Heavy Weight Division at the AERC 50-Mile National Championship Ride held in the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia, on his prized Arabian horse, K-Zar Emmanuel. The story of Michael's accomplishment, as written by his son, Patrick, may be read in the upcoming publication of Endurance News magazine. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 4, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 116. S. Church Street, Monroe, NC 28112. Father Henry Presler will officiate. Michael is survived by his parents, Bill and Barbara Bailey of Denver, NC, his wife, Alison Gets Bailey, sons, Ian Michael Bailey of Portland, Oregon, and Patrick Daniel Bailey of Waxhaw, NC, who were his pride and joy, sister, Terri Lynn Pruett and husband Bruce of Mooresville, NC, two nieces, Beverly Irvin and husband Chris of Indian Trail, NC, and Whitney Pruett of Mooresville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Mountin' Hopes Therapeutic Riding Center, P. O. Box 387, Mars Hill, NC 28754, or the SERA, www.seraonline.org.
