Michael Keith Simpson

Monroe, NC Michael Keith Simpson passed away on May 2, 2010 at CMC-Union Hospital following an extended illness. Mike is survived by his wife, Alison “Alie” of Monroe; three children, Dorothy “Dottie” Jewell Caleb Michael of the home, and Rachel Danielle of Texas; one grandchild Brayden Mark of Texas; brothers Ray, Bob, John of Arkansas; sisters Linda, Susan Sandy of Arkansas; several beloved nieces and nephews. Mike was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on February 17, 1960. He was the youngest of 14 children, and the seventh son of Dorothy Simpson and the late U.W. Simpson of Arkansas. Mike’s father was also the seventh son of Calup and Katherine Simpson of Arkansas. Mike was preceded in death by his brothers Jake, Herman Dave and sisters Katherine, Sharon Francis. Mike had a lifelong career in the industrial electrical field, working as a journeyman electrician, heavy equipment operator, foreman, and general foreman. He also served as a Certified Craft Instructor for the National Center for Construction Education Research, and taught classes in blueprint reading, safety, math, hand tools, power tools and rigging. Throughout his career he earned 11 safety awards, as well as various electrical certifications and licenses. He worked for global construction companies in Arkansas, Tennessee, California, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, and most recently for ConMet in Monroe. He also owned Simpson Electrical Services for the past 10 years in Monroe. Mike was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church, and had served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Building and Grounds Committee, and was involved in mission restoration projects in Monroe and West Virginia. Mike also volunteered for the Piedmont Recreation Association as a coach for basketball, softball, t-ball, and soccer. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved camping, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He competed regularly as a member of the International Fishing and Recreation Team. A memorial service will be held at Lakeview Baptist Church on Saturday, May 8 at 11:30. There will be a private burial. Pallbearers include: Rodd Price, David Hammaker, Aaron Tarlton, Charlie Brown, Tommy Broome, and Dwayne Cook. Honorary pallbearers include: Larry Simpson, Ron Fowler, and Wayne Duncan. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Rd., Ste 200, Charlotte, NC 28210 or the Building Fund at Lakeview Baptist Church, 4602 Concord Hwy, Monroe, 28110.
