Mildred Laney Smith, age 88 of Monroe, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Atrium Union.She was born June 2, 1931, in Union County to the late Dexter Laney and Girvous Laney. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Marcus"Mark" Edmond Smith and two brothers Billy Ray Laney (Floroy) and Tim Laney (Darren). The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 from 10:00am until 10:45am at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Graveside service will follow at Lakeland Memorial at 11:00am. Survivors include two daughters, Avanda Starnes (deceased husband Donald) and Terri Ann Smith, both of Monroe. One brother Danny Laney (Kathy).Two grandchildren Donald "Jeffery" Starnes (Marie) of Monroe and Heather Starnes Brown (John) of Waxhaw.
