Obituary

Millon F. “Mike” Carnes, Jr., 60-years-old, died Friday, October 25, 2013, at his home in the Wolf Pond Community of Pageland SC. His wife Elaine and daughter Leslie were by his side. Mike’s strong will to live, his unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of many friends and family carried him through a courageous two year battle with lung cancer. Mike was born October 20, 1953 in Pageland SC, son of Millon and Betty Sue Carnes. He enjoyed a successful career in Computer Information Technology. He wrote the software and helped establish his wife’s company, Piedmont Permit Service. Mike was currently employed as I.T. project manager at Skanska, USA, Charlotte. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Elaine Outen Carnes, two daughters Leslie Carnes Redfern (Smyth) of Indian Land, and Ashley Marie Carnes of Wilmington, NC, two grandchildren Alyssa and Eli who loved their “Pops”. In addition Mike is survived by his parents Millon and Betty Sue Carnes, sister Emily Lowery (John) of Wingate; mother- in- law Bonnie Outen; three brother-in-laws Jim Outen (Patty) of Waxhaw, Don Outen (Pam) of Concord, and Denny Outen (Cathy) of Waxhaw, and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Mike loved all sports and enjoyed watching all sports on TV, especially pro football being both a Panther and New England Patriot Fan. He was an avid reader, golfer, and enjoyed gardening. He was a lifelong member of Wolf Pond Baptist Church, Mike was an integral part of many committees and ministries. He had a wonderful voice and loved singing with his fellow choir members. He served the church many years as a deacon and taught Sunday School. Mike loved his church because he loved his Lord. Funeral Services will be held Monday Oct. 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Wolf Pond Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. A Visitation will be held Sunday Oct. 27, 2013 at Gordon Funeral Service 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC, 28112 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wolf Pond Baptist Church, 78 Wolf Pond Church Rd. Pageland, SC, 29728, or to Hospice of Chesterfield County 700 West Boulevard Post Office Box 293, Chesterfield, South Carolina, 29709.
