Morrison Gene Couick, 87, went home to be with the Lord on July 16th, 2022. He was
born September 4, 1934 in Union County to the late Rachel Belk Couick and Wilburn
Couick (step-mother, Cleo). Morrison was devoted to his family and a member of Oak
Grove Baptist Church.
Morrison was preceded in death by Mary Couick, his spouse of 27 years; his son,
Richard Couick; sisters, Emily Potts, Ann Y. Couick, and Judy Lisk; sister-in-law, Martha
Couick; and brother-in-law, Milton Lisk Jr.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112, with Rev. Rich Myers
Officiating, burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
In the early years, Morrison delivered Phillips 66 products for South Central Oil. That is
why he chose the # 66 for the short track car he briefly raced at Starlight Speedway.
Morrison was a truck driver for Holly Farms, department manager at the Union County
Animal Shelter, and worked for Security at Tyson Foods. Most notably, people
remember Morrison from Couick's Small Engine, which he owned and operated starting
in 1981 with his son, Ronny and grandson, Adam. In addition to a love for working on
lawnmowers, Morrison loved talking to people. He had many friends and acquaintances
that will miss him dearly.
Survivors include Morrison's son, Ronny Couick (Selena) of Norwood; daughter, Cindy
Courtney (Randy) of Raleigh; step-daughters, Paula Starnes of Monroe and Sharon
Cauthen (Donnie) of Lancaster, SC; brothers, Billy Couick and Darryl Couick (Sonya) of
